Statement of Support for Asian American Pacific Islander Communities

The City of Bloomington’s Human Relations Commission strongly condemns the abhorrent violence against our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) neighbors; locally, regionally, and nationally.

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities locally, regionally, and nationally have suffered racially-motivated physical and verbal attacks. No one should be subjected to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment in violation of their human rights. Over the last year, more than 3000 instances of discrimination against members of the AAPI community were reported in the U.S. These incidents ranged from violent attacks and verbal abuse to the vandalizing of Asian owned businesses. We as a nation are better than this and in times of trouble we pull together as a united front.

Racist-motivated harassment, intimidation, verbal and physical attacks and micro-aggressions, hate and intolerance are unacceptable and are in direct opposition to BHRC's values and must be repudiated by us all. We are asking you, our neighbors, to join us in condemning acts of violence, to stand up for those targeted by hatred and ignorance, and to continue having courageous conversations that can effect necessary change. The City of Bloomington’s Human Relations Commission is committed to advancing this cause.
