Most alleged Ordinance Violations involve violations of Chapter 6, 8, or 28 of the Bloomington City Code. Prior to your court date, you may pay the fine for your Ordinance Violation by any of the following methods:

(1)        Mail to the Legal Dept., 115 East Washington Street, Suite 403, Bloomington, IL 61701.

(2)        Over the phone using Visa, Mastercard, Discover at 309-434-2509 x0; or

(3)        In-person at the Hub, located inside the Government Center, 115 E Washington St. 

Ordinance Violations may be paid up until the day prior to the listed court date on your Ordinance Violation. Extensions of time to pay are not given. Making the payment prior to court will settle the matter and you will not need to appear in court. If the ticket is not paid prior to the listed court date, an appearance must be made or the City will seek a default order in Administrative Court which includes the fine amount and court costs of $110.

If a vehicle is towed by the police department, a vehicle *owner* must:

#1: Arrive at BPD's lobby to have the vehicle tow release slip given to them or *their designee via Absent Owner Form* 
#2: Take the vehicle tow release to the contracted tow company.

Important Notes:

• Payment (exact cash only) is accepted at the Bloomington Police Department Lobby -305 S. East St. - available 24/7
• To dispute a police tow: A Vehicle Tow Hearing Notice will be set 21 days or more, but less than 45 days, from the date of impoundment.
• Must show proof of ownership of vehicle at BPD* or complete a Tow Release Form For Absent Owner
• DUI arrests will have a hold on the vehicle

The BPD issued you a traffic citation, what's next? 

Your choices:

A. Avoid a conviction on your driving record: plead guilty, register for Traffic Safety School and receive Court Supervision, pay $214 ($164 ticket + $50 for traffic school). After successfully completing the class, your violation will still be reported to the Secretary of State, but NOT as a conviction. 

B. Plead guilty, pay $164 ticket. Conviction is reported to the Secretary of State. 

C. Plead not guilty and request (a) a bench trial before a judge or (b) pretrial hearing.

*CDL holders and drivers under age 18 MUST choose option B or C. 

*If you were enrolled in or have completed Traffic Safety School (TSS) for a violation committed in the last 12 months, you are not eligible to take the four-hour course again.

SOP 5.13 - VOIDING OR DISMISSING AN ISSUED ILLINOIS UNIFORM TRAFFIC CITATION

If issued an Illinois Traffic Ticket by BPD under the Violator Compliance Program, please arrived at the Bloomington Police Department, 305 S. East St., within 7 consecutive days from the date of the issuance. 

During that seven day period, the violator can get the necessary repair done and bring the vehicle to the Police Department for inspection by a patrol commander or desk officer. If the necessary repair(s) has been made to the vehicle so it complies with the law, the citation will be voided and returned to the records division.

Extensions: Whenever an officer feels an extension to the seven day rule applies, he shall attach a note to the compliance ticket explaining the reason and length of extension (no more than 3 days) and place
it into the compliance folder under the number corresponding to the appropriate day from the date
the ticket was written. These may be reviewed by any shift supervisor.
