Subdivision Ordinance
The subdivision ordinance was adopted in 1998 and can be found in Chapter 24 of the City Code. The purpose of the subdivision ordinance is to promote the orderly, planned, efficient, and economical development of the City. Land to be subdivided or developed as a planned unit development shall be of such character that it can be used safely for building purposes without posing danger to public health, and land should not be subdivided or developed as a planned unit development until available public facilities and improvements exist and proper provision has been made for drainage, water, sewerage, and capital improvements such as schools, parks, recreation facilities, transportation facilities and improvements..Annexation Ordinance

If you would like to receive basic zoning information about a property in the City of Bloomington, you may submit a zoning verification request over the phone with the Economic & Community Development department. Zoning Verifications can take up to 7-10 business days depending on the complexity of the request.Building Permits and Plan Reviews
For information about building permits, plan reviews, building codes and contractor registration please visit our Building Safety Page. All commercial projects must have a review completed prior to a building permit being issued. Commercial Construction shall include all multifamily structures of three or more units and all business, commercial, or industrial type buildings. It shall not include one or two family dwellings.

Liquor Licenses
Individuals who wish to sell alcohol at their establishment must obtain approval for a liquor license from the Liquor Commission. Liquor license applications are processed through the City Clerk’s office. Please allow for two months minimum from the time you submit your application until the time your application is through the process and approved.Freedom of Information Act Requests
